Comparing SitaraGem® to Moissanite
When comparing SitaraGem® to Moissanite, the biggest difference is in the appearance. Moissanite has been plagued by a muddy hue, usually faint yellow or grayish that becomes more prominent as the stone size increases. Lacking the brilliant whiteness of a SitaraGem®, most moissanite would grade within the I-K colour range. Diamonds are valued by how closely they approach colorlessness, thus buying Moissanite is like buying a low grade / inferior diamond. SitaraGem® on the other hand rates in the upper colorless range of D/E, similar to very expensive Diamonds.
Moissanite presently synthesized is doubly refractive. When compared to diamond, a moissanite's character of brilliance is a less focused or a more fuzzy effect that can be noticed with the naked eye. This is visually seen as a doubling of the stone's back facets that appear blurry when examined closely. A SitaraGem®, like a diamond, is single refractive and has clean sharp facet lines when looking from various angles through the top of the stone.
Moissanite has a dispersive power nearly 2.5 times greater than diamond (0.104 vs. 0.044). Some think the fire of moissanite is viewed as excessive and fake looking. Moissanite handles light differently and produces bi-refringance or double reflections. SitaraGem® has a closer dispersive to a diamond giving it the same intense fire and brilliance.
Moissanite actually has differing optical properties and cannot be cut to the same standards as a diamond. This is another key disadvantage to a trained eye that it is not a diamond. Sitaragems are cut to exact diamond proportions so they produce the same fire and incredible brilliance.
Synthetic Moissanite has been heavily marketed and exclusive to Charles and Colvard which means that it commands a premium price. SitaraGem® is reasonably priced, has diamond-like beauty and is a truly more believable simulated diamond. A SitaraGem® is definitely the more realistic and brilliant choice.
